The Canaan Fir
This beautiful fir, with its soft needles and strong branches is well suited to grow in West Michigan’s cool climate, abundant moisture and deep, well-drained soils and is gaining considerable popularity as a cut Christmas tree because of its open-growing patterns, strong branches and pleasing aroma.
Native to the Canaan Valley, a small pocket of land northeast of Elkins, West Virginia, the Canaan fir (pronounced "Ka-naan", with emphasis on the last syllable) has many similarities to both Fraser and balsam firs.
